Halloween Hike at North Mills River

Today we went to stake conference and then after lunch took a nice leisurely hike on a trail in North Mills River past the campground. Just a little ways into the hike, we had to take our socks and shoes off, roll up our pant legs, and cross the river in order to continue the hike around the mountain. We about lost consciousness because the water was so cold. The rocks were slippery too, but we made it across. Later we had to cross the river again but this time there was a wonderful swinging bridge that kept us high and dry.

Everything was covered in fallen leaves except for these boulders.

You can see our enthusiasm at not having to walk barefoot across the river the second time.

"Almost heaven...North Carolina...Blue Ridge Mountains...North Mills River!" (A little variation on John Denver's tune)

I don't know which is more pleasing to the eye...the Rhododendrons or my handsome hubby.

The fall colors were beautiful and it was a warm 65 degrees.

A beautiful shot upward through the leaves.

Gary really liked this dry cornfield at the foot of the mountain.

What can I say...I'm looking more the part of 'Grandma' everyday...

We both liked this wooden fence near the campground.

The river we had to cross twice in our bare feet in order to enjoy the bridge we were on taking this picture.
