We were so blessed to have Sister Julie Beck, the 15th general president of the Relief Society present at our Stake Women's Conference this past weekend. There were 8 stakes invited in all. We had a huge number of sisters for each session. Gary and I were very blessed to be asked to be on the security team for each of the four sessions. We wore official-looking security badges and our post was next to the stairs going up the ramp to the stage. We were not to allow anyone to go up on the stand with Sister Beck. It was an important assignment and an honored privilege. The great part is we got to hear her all four sessions. Even better, we were lucky to share a delicious lunch provided by the Asheville Stake RS presidency in the high council room with Sister Beck! You could truly feel her spirituality and great devotion to the church and love for the sisters. I wanted to share some of the notes I took from the main points of her messages:
* We need to prepare ourselves spiritually everyday.
* We should spend significant time in the scriptures daily.
* We should visit teach with Christ-like love and be a friend to the sisters we visit.
* We should pray to know how to best love and serve those we visit teach.
* The Relief Society is to educate and assist sisters-not entertain them.
* We need to devote time to the Lord. We need to feed His sheep.
* We need to be modest in our dress always and never be pornography for anyone.
* We should be good homemakers and establish a house of order.
* Our homemaking skills show our love for our family.
* We nurture and nourish our family through food and a clean and orderly home.
* There are times and seasons for all things (we can't do everything today.)
* Mothers are the primary spiritual teachers of their children.
* "The scriptures are the gateway to inspiration."
* We should be very involved in our children's schools and education.
* We should be proactive and be a school leader in raising the standard of excellence in the school.
* "Be the cheering section behind your husband."
* Women who try to work 3 shifts will burn out. Think about which shift is most important right now and be at the top of your game in that shift. Plan your time carefully and put your strength where it is most important for today.
* Start dinner (or at least the plans) at breakfast. Dinner time is important!
* If you are weak physically, your spirit can't function properly. Eat healthly food, sleep sufficiently, and exercise-set priorities so you can be at your best.
* We chose to come here and so the experiences we have will help shape us into the persons we need to be. We should ask for help in fulfilling our earthly missions.
* The 3 pillars of our religion: 1. the creation-it enabled mortality. 2. the fall-it enabled the family to grow. 3. the atonement-it enabled us to return to God.
* The pair: male and female-each have important different responsibilities.
* We each should ask ourselves how well we are helping to spread the gospel to all the world.
* When we get hurt we might just learn something important. Our experiences teach us.
* Christ suffered the greatest betrayals. Let go of hurts- forgive!
* We should ask for a priesthood blessing if we need to let go of some difficult hurt.
* Satan is after women. He often uses the Internet-it can start in subtle ways.
* The woman's role is to prepare her family to be faithful. We should not rely on others to do it.
